Wouldn't you know it, those New York railroads just have to be different! Searching the web I came across a passage about the FL9, a B A-1-A engine. That's right, 2 axels in the front and 3 axels in the back!

    FL9.jpg

Quoting the Wiki, "The EMD FL9 (New Haven Class EDER-5) was a dual-power electro-diesel locomotive, capable of diesel-electric operation and of operation as an electric locomotive powered from a third rail.

Here we have a diesel engine that also operates off a third rail! While only 60 were built specificly for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, a total of 18 railroads ended up running them, including one the FEC bought, left standing for two years, rebuilt and painted for a railroad in Ohio.

It would be interesting to have one for the game, but being an extended version of the very long F9, it would just be to big.

Nice model snoopy....I want to make it, but unfortunally now I'm using note book with windows 7 64 Bit as my operating system and use 3ds Max 2011, where 3ds Max 2011 can't support NIF file, and on the windows 7 I can't install 3ds Max 8

well, this is a bit off topic, but if you are wanting to continue making models for us, what the heck!

    http://niftools.sourceforge.net/forum/v ... =20&t=2687

The following site mentions another way, but only try it if the first does not work, which, from what I've quickly read, it does work.

    http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php ... -question/

This just took a quick 3 minute search.......... Hard Labor

Thanks for the information snoopy, but once again I must say unfortunally that plugins can't work in 3ds Max design 2011, sorry for that trouble, but i will try to resolve this problem with another way.........so be patient........ Hard Labor

From NifTool forum: "I was needing a version of MaxTools for 3ds max 2011 on my x64 build, so I got the source and after a little editing built the project for x64 2011.
Tested and works. (basic functionality tested, other areas might not work).

    The tool is here: http://hotfile.com/dl/47109651/086fec8/nif.7z.html

On the other site two others state that it works for them.

    Try it out.

I checked the above link to that tool and the page says.

This file is either removed due to copyright claim or is deleted by the uploader.

So you may have to read the NifTool Forum a bit more to find it.

One request Rodea, if you decide to biuld this, please use the DIFF.DDS from the original F7 for the skin material. That way I can do a shadow map for it and do several skins. As soon as I get the base, shadow map and the hardware DDSs worked up, I'll post them for others. Also, could you try to put it on a 2048x2048, that way things can be spread out better, like both sides and a full nose. This keeps skinners from having to use decals.

Go to the site I posted. The person who created the program has since updated it several times and posted it on SourceForge so he deleted from the place he had it before.

Of course, if you look at my last post, the file you need is there for you to download.

Don't worry about it.....Fortunally I have 3ds Max 2009 64 bit installed on my machine...... :yeha
where the program has to support the NIF Files
try to see the picture below, it is EMD F3 A that is being modified into EMD FL9 using 3ds Max 2009 by adding a set of axles (three wheels) from GE U23 Rodea EMP Train
Basic textures are still using EMD F3A DDS files is only done on the wheel texture changes

There are a few minor problems with that engine.
Under the front wheels there is a bar there that should not be there.
Also the front Steps look like they are moving with the wheels turning and there is also and extra set of steps there as well.
The windows look like they are broken as well.

just looked in the nif you posted and its the same there. The rear brakes from a side view are missing parts and look like they are hollow.

But looking good so far but needs those items repaired.

to repair ....open emd FL9.nif then looking for line NiAlphaProperty ( No. 26 ) look at Block detail windows then change Threshold value from 190 to 150, it is mean the windows could be not Transparancy or you can edit emd_f9_a_diff.dds to make it full transparant

it is just a bit problem.......... :COKE: , don't worry I will repair it if I have enough time for that................ :Morning

    OK no problem with that.

Also noticed you use Steam sounds for the engine and not Deisel.

    Code: Select all
    <SpeedSounds>
          <szSpeed>AS3D_TR_STEAM_ENGINE_SLOW_LP_1</szSpeed>
          <szSpeed>AS3D_TR_STEAM_ENGINE_MID_SLOW_LP_1</szSpeed>

          <szSpeed>AS3D_TR_STEAM_ENGINE_FAST_LP_1</szSpeed>

Well, I came across this baby and thought about messing with it a bit. I found a number of pics of them in different schemes. Here is just a few:

    RAPFL92.JPG

    RAPFL91.JPG

Now, the question is, if I work this up, will anyone use it? Rodea built one and posted it, but he used an F9 without lengthening it. There are also a number of different variations of the fans and such. Possibly the electric pick-up also. (hey, this was a diesel/electric back in the 50's. EMD had it way before the auto industry!)

If anyone wants to do it up I'll post the pics and work up the variations for them. Arteest
